Mexico was....Amazing. So nice to just get away from all the stress of the real world and relax in the amazing (intense) sun and stunning crystal blue water that you could see for miles. It really is amazing the way the world looks in different places, it really made my itch to travel and see everywhere, that much bigger.
So the trip started out a bit bumpy, the flight was overbooked (we were on a flight with a group of like 60 from woodbury all on the same reservation), so someone had to get off and take a flight the next day. My dad volunteered and to the tune of $800 each later, he convinced my brother to stay off and come the next day as well. So my mom, sister, my sister's friend Sam, and I all headed down there. The first day was just a wash, all traveling, taking a bus to the resort, then checking in (which for some reason took FOREVER). People down there are just so laid back and relaxed, so different from the fast paced world of America.
My dad and Matt took a flight to Cozemel (sp?), then took a Ferry to Play Del Carmen, then a Bus to our Resort to finally get there. It was pretty comical, especially when I was getting angry text messages from my Dad, because as some of you know, his patience level is well, how to put this....non-existent.
The week was amazing, in the 80's and 90's and sunny all week. I unfortunately got super sunburned the first day (even with 30 sunblock on), so I couldn't go into the sun much the rest of the week. But laying in the hammicks and just relaxing by the swim up bar was fabulous.
The food got a little reduntant being in an all inclusive resort, but Captain Morgan's was fun, we would go there every day for lunch to have a burger (really the only great food at the buffet) and had a great time with our server, Mary, who would show us some of her favorite local drinks!
The night life was hoppin, made me feel a little old to be with all the high schoolers, made me think of when I was in high school, oh where do the years go!
On the last day we decided to take a van up to Cancun to Snorkel. Earlier that day we'd rented jet skis, which was SOOO FUN. If you ever have a chance to go jet skiing in the ocean, it's a blast, jumping all those waves, awesome!
Anyways, snorkling was fun. I had a few panic moments when the fish were swimming right next to me, and it's awfully hard to scream with your snorkel gear on without getting a mouth full of salt water, so I had to not panic. But the fish were pretty, at a distance! A van picked us up when we were done for the hour ride back, and it wouldn't start. Finally the guy got it to start, but we never should have left, if wouldn't go more than 10 mph, so we drove on the shoulder of the Mexican high way for a good 5 minutes until we eventually just died. If you even took one look into the van, you would have known it was doomed for disaster. The steering wheel was held on with rope, the vents had hankerchiefs tied to them to hold them on, the bench seat in front of our seat (Nic, Sam and I), which was the very last seat, was missing a bolt so the seat was literally up against ours, so we had absolutely no leg room and there were 3 rather large men in front of us. So needless to say, with it being the last day, lack of sleep, and just the rediculousness of the whole van, we were giddy and couldn't stop laughing. So we were stranded on the highway for a good 1/2 hour before another van came to pick us up. Funniest part to it, was with all the violence going on in Mexico right now, my Dad said we were going to the leave the resort as little as possible because it wasn't all that safe. So the one day we leave, we get stranded on the high way! Good thing we were with 6 large men and an Army dude!
Well that's the trip wrapped up into a few paragraphs, if you're even still reading this!
